Mozilla released Firefox 3.1 Beta1. Try it now!

Mozilla just released Beta1 of Firefox 3.1 browser. They haven’t yet made the official announcement though.

The noticeable features include Ctrl+Tab 3D navigation browser, faster JavaScript performance, and Open a New Tab button just like Internet Explorer 7.

If you want to give a try, here is how to install it in Linux:

wget ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.1b1/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-3.1b1.tar.bz2Update: From the official What’s New page:

  • Web standards improvements in the Gecko layout engine
  • Added support for CSS 2.1 and CSS 3 properties
  • A new tab-switching shortcut that shows previews of the tab you’re switching to
  • Improved control over the Smart Location Bar using special characters to restrict your search
  • Support for new web technologies such as the <video> and <audio> elements, the W3C Geolocation API, JavaScript query selectors, web worker threads, SVG transforms and offline applications.
  • Don’t forget to backup your profile so that you can restore if something goes wrong.

      I m very excited to explorer Firefox 3.1 , I ve been firefox for last 5 years …I love it…Earlier , I used Ineternet Explorer , but after installing Firefox ..I ve never used any other browser…. the add ons are simply grt…

      firefox 3.1b1 is so far (in my opinion) the best out there noticeable speed improvements over GC and getting the extensions to work was no problem but some of the css does not work (from ff 3.0.3) and no one is talking about it yet any ideas? the “list tabs button” i want gone

      Thanks for sharing, this is a good article, very informative.
      I followed you guide to install FF3.1, however there seems to be a slight problem with the final command: ./firefox
      This command merely starts up Firefox, and because the sudo command has not been issued FF3.1 has not been install.
      Simply changing the final command given to: sudo ./firefox will install FF3.1
      Hope this helps.
