The wallpapers that should make their ways to Intrepid Ibex

[Updated] No more discussion on the new wallpaper that is probably going to be ported with the next version of our favorite OS that is going to be released on 30th October, 2008. Everyone agrees that the default wallpaper sucks! Ubuntu fans were asking for a better theme and a default wallpaper but it seems that the developers worked hard on how to make its apperance even worse. Here are some Intrepid Ibex wallpapers floating around the internet and honestly each of them deserves to be a default wallpaper for the upcoming Ubuntu.

This wallpaper just got updated

If they don’t want to include any of the above for some reasons, than this wallpaper is far better than the current wallpaper:

I guess we can’t complain since they don’t have to invest the time and money they have to provide us with such a great distro.. but boy I sure would love to see them improve the interface. A lot of freelancers have submitted great looking designs, any of which I would be pleased to have at this point, so even if the developers are not designers, the designs have already been submitted. Almost seems they are actively trying not to improve the interface..

@Trent: I agree but including a good looking wallpaper shouldn’t be taking more than a couple of minutes, I guess. Also, they shouldn’t turn a deaf ear towards the users because of whom the OS has gained so much popularity. I guess with the current Intrepid Ibex’s wallpaper they want to send a message “we do what we like and nobody gonna stop us from making it even uglier”

*ubuntu has never been famous for its artwork.
Neither wallpaper, nor grub splash or any thing in between.

Mepis, suse, pclinux are much nicer

    sad but true.

At least kubuntu intrepid comes with a fairly nice desktop:)

    These wallpapers are cool.

I just watched a youtube video for Ubuntu 8.10 beta and it has the new theme. It just isn’t enabled by default.

Who cares what wallpaper will be coming with this distribution. I will be changing it anyway to the way I like. That is the great thing about Linux, you can make it look however you like.

But in the grand scheme of things, is the wallpaper that important? It is not as if it cannot be replaced with whatever you choose. I think this should be one of the lowest priority items. The operating system is stable and on-time. I hope most see this as a little more important than throwing in a ton of wallpapers.

I agree about the interface improvements, and they are working on it. But, if you want bling and cuteness, get a Mac. I use Ubuntu because it Just Works (TM).

I don’t get it. Why is everyone complaining about how Ubuntu looks? If you don’t like the damn wallpaper, change it!!! To me, it is more important that Ubuntu make its OS work, and there are a lot of things that then still need to improve. Regardless of what Ibex looks like, it is the best release I have ever used, and its still a beta. So quit your b*tching and go change the wallpaper.

M$ never makes a big deal out of their wallpaper, in fact I never use the default that comes with the system, I always try to pick one that suits my taste better… get rid of the brown and orange!

I like the way the keep the subtle reference to Debian with the spiral shapes in many of those. The Hardy background did the same with the spiral feather shapes.

Listen, everyone. Yes, the wallpaper sucks. But there’s a second built-in wallpaper that’s very awesome. It’s similar to the first three shown on this page. I use it and really like it. Just go to change your wallpaper and you’ll see it.
